£6m Simply up for pitch

Simply Computers is looking for an agency to handle its media planning and buying account, which is understood to be worth up to &£6m.

The computer retailer is talking to a number of media agencies, and expects to make an appointment by the end of the month.

The incumbent, Worth Communications, which also handled the creative work for previous campaigns, is not pitching for the business.

Simply Computers decided to review its account after setting up its own design studio last September.

“We will be doing all our design and creative work in house, but we want some help with media planning and buying, says Claire Nicholson, marketing manager at Simply Computers, who is overseeing the pitch.

Simply Computers was judged to have the seventh-best retail website in the UK in a recent survey by digital consultancy BrandNet.co.uk (MW December 7 2000), beating rivals such as PC World, Jungle, Tiny and Time Computers.

Last month the company won a three-year contract to supply monitors, scanners and other equipment to University College, London.

It has also launched a dedicated education team to provide universities, schools and colleges with cost-effective IT solutions.
