M&S unveils homecare plan to regain lost customers

Marks & Spencer is launching a new homeware collection for spring and summer in a bid to woo shoppers back to the chain.

Marks & Spencer is launching a new homeware collection for spring and summer in a bid to woo shoppers back to the chain.

The range, which rolls out in stores this week, includes ergonomical cleaning products from US designer Michael Grave.

A spokeswoman for M&S says designs in the collection have deliberately been kept simple.

“We have concentrated on one or two items for each part of the day, such as coffee cups and cafetières. M&S has not tried to do everything in each range but made sure what it has is the best,” she says.

The launch follows a series of initiatives in recent weeks as the struggling retailer attempts to turn around increasingly poor sales, especially in women’s clothing.

Following the announcement that fashion retail guru George Davies will be designing and supplying a range exclusively for M&S, shares rose about seven per cent.

Womenswear is the target for most of the company’s changes, with a new spring line unveiled last week.

M&S has also poached Warehouse managing director Yasmin Yusuf to fill the new role of creative director, clothing. She will be responsible for the central design team and co-ordinating design and product direction across the clothing units.
