Telegraph.co.uk unveils online travel channel

Telegraph.co.uk is launching a new online travel channel, featuring an online booking facility with information on more than 3,000 holiday destinations.

The online newspaper has signed a deal with Internet travel service provider Online Travel Corporation (OTC) to offer users a full range of travel services, including bespoke package holidays, flights, hotels, car hire, late deals and travel insurance.

Visitors to the site will be able to tailor their requirements with options to search by destination, type of travel, cost and length of stay. Holidays can also be selected according to category such as activity, adventure, honeymoons, skiing, city breaks or shopping.

The revamped travel channel, formerly known as Planet, will offer up-to-the-minute weather reports including current and five-day forecasts for more than 3,000 cities and a snow report service incorporating about 250 ski resorts.

As well as offering access to nearly 3,000 travel-related articles, the site will feature exclusive columns from travel journalists and a consumer advice section.

Possible additional features include personalisation of information to allow users to select tailored articles and send information to other people through e-mail.

Travel.telegraph.co.uk head Paul Hagan says: “The Telegraph’s new travel channel, with its high standard of journalism, breadth of content and third-party partnerships, will set the tone for other online travel sites.”

The travel channel follows the launch of Sport.telegraph.co.uk at the end of last year. Specialist channels for money, jobs and motoring will be launched in the next few months.
