Grey nets DoubleClick £15m global business

Online advertising company DoubleClick has appointed Grey Worldwide to handle its &£15m global advertising account.

The agency was appointed following a two-way pitch against J Walter Thompson in New York.

BBDO Worldwide and its @tmosphere interactive unit pulled out of the review earlier this month, citing other e-business opportunities.

The UK account, understood to be worth up to &£5m, was held by OgilvyOne Worldwide and creative strategy consultancy Underground.

MediaCom Digital, part of Grey Global Group, has been appointed to the interactive media account, while Grey’s sister agency, Beyond Interactive will work on interactive creative. Grey Worldwide New York will handle creative for all other media.

It is understood that MindShare has lost the media planning and buying account in the UK.

Grey Worldwide’s London office will not be involved in creating any of the campaigns but may be asked to adapt work to suit the UK market, says a spokeswoman for DoubleClick in London.

The online sales house will take heart from research from media agency Optimedia, published earlier this month, which suggests that rumours of the death of online advertising have been greatly exaggerated (MW last week).

While online advertising fell slightly in December last year, the report predicts a 70 per cent increase in online spend across Europe this year.
