BBC1 appoints Madden as head marketer

The BBC has appointed Christine Madden to head up marketing at BBC1, with a brief to create a marketing strategy for the station to compete effectively with ITV.

Madden, who will join the BBC at the end of April, is marketing manager of Granada Sky Broadcasting, where she is responsible for Granada Plus, Granada Breeze and Granada Men & Motors.

Reporting to Jane Scott, the BBC’s controller of TV marketing and strategy, Madden will be responsible for developing and implementing the marketing strategy for the channel. She will also review the station’s onand off-air identity.

The appointment comes just ahead of the much-anticipated appointment of a replacement for marketing and communications director Matthew Bannister, who left the corporation last December.

The BBC has already appointed Peta Clifton as BBC2’s head of marketing. Clifton also reports to Scott.

Prior to joining Granada, Madden was head of promotions and marketing services for radio station Kiss 100.

Scott says: “Madden has a wealth of television experience from the multi-channel word and I look forward to her bringing these strengths to BBC1.”

Madden says:”I am keen to get working with the BBC1 team.”
