It will be allwight on the night

There are many ways of asking the great and the good to dig deep into their pockets for charity.

You would have thought that king of light entertainment Michael Barrymore had honed his approach to a tee.

But at the mobile telephone industry’s social highlight of the year – the Mobile News Awards – the entertainer strayed in a rather novel direction.

Appearing without demanding a fee, but slurring his words and deviating from a script promoting the Make a Wish Foundation, Barrymore got dragged into a battle of the hecklers.

Slow hand-clapping from the audience was met with expletives and crude digs at individuals in the audience.

Nonetheless, guests were undeterred by the f***ing language and stumped up about &£13,000 for the Foundation.
