Survey is cause for concern

The Factfile report on local newspapers (MW last week) reports that one in five adults would not like to be without their local paper.

The implication is therefore that four out of five would like to be without their local paper. A frightening statistic for local papers but not as frightening as that for local radio, which only 0.02 per cent of the population (that’s just one in 500 people) believe “understands my concerns and lifestyle”.

Across the survey more people say regional newspapers, national newspapers, BBC, ITV and the rest are NOT enjoyable, trustworthy or reflective of their lifestyles than believe the reverse. This survey, if accurate, is totally damning of all media in the UK, and should be a cause for concern, not celebration.
