Rivals.net, the Chrysalis-backed sports network, is launching three paid-for SMS services for this summer’s biggest sporting events – The British Lions Tour of Australia, the Tour de France and the Ashes series. Each of the branded ‘More than Just the Scores’ services will launch in June and offers users a package including breaking news alerts and story roundups. The service will not initially be sponsored so that the messages can use all the space available for stories. The first service will launch on June 1 for the Lions Tour and will cost &£6.99. Vodafone customers have the option to ‘reverse bill’ whereby the tariff for each messaged received will be charged to their phone bill.
