Unilever cosmetics arm appoints Euro marketer

Household goods and food giant appoints former Coty marketing director to head beauty division.

Unilever Cosmetics International (UCI) has appointed Janet Pumphrey, export marketing director for Coty, as its new European marketing director. She will report to Shelley Smyth, vice-president of European marketing and strategic development.

The company recently appointed a new UK managing director, Teresa Townsend, a former Harvey Nichols store controller (MW March 8). Townsend replaced Hilary Dart, who became president of Calvin Klein Cosmetics in the US in February.

These appointments form part of a board-level restructure aimed at giving better support to UCI’s expanding portfolio of global brands. UCI manufactures cosmetics and fragrances for Calvin Klein Cosmetics, fragrances for the Unilever Prestige brands and fragrances for the European Designer Fragrance brands.

Coty has appointed the top marketer at Swatch Group, Quentin Higham, to replace Pumphrey. Higham, brand director at Swatch, will be given a new title – marketing director of Coty Export. He will be responsible for exports to Europe, Africa, Middle East and all the Nordic countries.

At Swatch, Higham reported to the managing director of the company, Malcolm Douglas.

The Swiss watch company had poached him from Revlon, where he was the head of UK marketing and number two in the marketing hierarchy behind the commercial director.

Swatch is understood to have promoted UK retail operations manager Hannah More, to replace Higham.
