Top executive quits London Electricity

Martin Wenban, London Electricity’s managing director and top retail supply marketer, has left the company without another job to go to.

Wenban, previously commercial director, was promoted to managing director in February, following a reorganisation at the energy company.

He has been with the company since 1997 and is believed to have resigned because he no longer wanted to be managing director.

Ian Beament, Wenban’s predecessor as managing director, retired in December last year.

Derek Lickorish, managing director of London Electricity customer service, will assume temporary management responsibility for the retail supply business.

The retail business has 2.8 million electricity and gas customers in the UK, under its London Electricity and SWEB brands, and through a 25 per cent stake in Virgin Energy.

London Electricity Group is a wholly owned subsidiary of Electricité de France (EDF).

Last summer, EDF teamed up with Virgin to launch Virgin Energy, with London Electricity handling purchasing and customer service.

London Electricity is said to be in talks with American Electric Power to buy Seeboard. An agreement is expected to be reached this summer.
