If a formula works why change it?

Why oh why can’t they leave things alone? As the age-old adage goes: “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” I just hate these modern versions of old “greats”, first the Beetle and now the Mini.

The reason the old versions have such long-lasting appeal is because they haven’t changed. The manufacturers haven’t updated the cars’ images, nor have they altered the look of the cars. They knew the formula worked in its original glory and so stuck to tried and tested models that the public loved so much. Now of course Volkswagen and BMW seem to think that new versions will enable them to sell more cars – wrong.

I’ve seen a couple of the new Beetles, but nowhere near the number of original Beetles. And so it will be for the new Mini. They may sell some new Minis, but it will be the original version that hip young things will want – not the new one.
