Abbey and BTopenworld launch joint Internet campaign

BTopenworld and Abbey National have launched a joint marketing campaign to back their co-branded Internet basic access offering.

The unmetered service is the first of its kind between BT and a UK bank and costs &£14.99 per month. Customers can apply for the service by logging on to or by picking up a registration CD from an Abbey National branch.

Abbey National will get an undisclosed amount of commission for every customer who signs up.

The bank says it has also made the deal to make it easier for its customers to bank online. Research by the bank showed that 45 per cent of UK adults would like to bank at any time of day.

Abbey National’s director of retail e-commerce and strategic development Ambrose McGinn says: “Abbey National’s customers want fast, reliable access to make online banking simple to use.”

BTopenworld senior vice-president Catherine Hawley says: “This deal enables Abbey National to concentrate on its core business while it manages their Internet services.”

Abbey National offers banking via WAP phones and digital TV.

BTopenworld provides Internet access for 1.3 million UK customers via BTinternet, the joint leading ISP, and BT openworld Broadband.
