Nationwide in talks over TV football

Granada Enterprises is talking to the Nationwide building society about sponsoring coverage of Nationwide League games, which are to be shown on ITV and ONdigital.

ITV and ONdigital, which is rebranded as ITV Digital today (July 11) secured the live games and highlights package for the Nationwide League and Worthington Cup – in a three-year deal worth &£315m – last year.

BSkyB previously broadcast Nationwide League coverage. Pizza Hut sponsored BSkyB’s coverage for the 2000/1 season.

Nationwide last year sponsored highlights of the Nationwide League shown in ITV’s Granada, LWT and Yorkshire Tyne-Tees regions.

A spokesman for Granada Enterprises says: “We are in talks with Nationwide about sponsoring ITV and ITV Digital’s coverage of the Nationwide Football League.”

ITV Sport, the pay-TV channel to be launched in August on ITV Digital platform, will broadcast live Nationwide League matches twice a week. Extra live matches will be offered on a pay-per-view basis to ITV Digital subscribers on Fridays.

ITV, will show highlights and the ITV regions will be able to broadcast live matches on Sundays.
