Scottish Amicable restructure sees Pender assume marketing position

Scottish Amicable has promoted head of product strategy Stuart Pender to the role of commercial director with responsibility for marketing.

His appointment is part of a company restructure which involved a valuation of the marketing department’s role within business development following the introduction of stakeholder pensions this year.

This has already resulted in the scrapping of the head of marketing and brand position held by Tim Shield (MW July 5).

Prudential Group, Scottish Amicable’s owner, is trying to find a role for Shield, although he is also in talks with other companies.

Pender’s brief is to develop marketing strategies to inform independent financial advisers about Scottish Amicable’s pension and ISA products. Pender will report to Tony Kempster, Prudential’s intermediary distribution director.

Scottish Amicable’s agency, TBWA GGT Direct, is unaffected by the appointment.

The Scottish Amicable and Prudential business sales teams were merged in March and relaunched as Scottish Amicable Financial Services.

Scottish Amicable was bought by Prudential in 1997 and has a workforce of 2,500 and about 2 million customers. In January this year Kim Lerche-Thomsen joined Scottish Amicable as chief executive.

The company insists that it has no plans to phase out the Scottish Amicable brand.
