H2O Plus seeks UK launch shop

H2O Plus, a Chicago-based manufacturer and retailer of oil-free, water-based skincare products, is to appoint an agency in the UK as part of its first foray into the European market.

The company plans to enter the UK cosmetics market by opening a chain of stores later this year.

H2O Plus retail marketing director Michelle Mize says: “We will look at appointing an agency for the company, although in the US both creative and media work are handled in house.”

The overseas operations of H2O Plus operate through a network of distributors. The company has a presence in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia.

International vice-president for new business development Charles Beck says: “We would like to have about 50 stores in the UK, and are looking at distributors. The company hopes to get the process going before the end of the year.”

H2O Plus was founded in 1989 by Cindy Melk, daughter of John Melk, a former chairman of Blockbuster Video. The company launched its first international venture in 1998.

The company formulates and manufactures all its own products.
