Simmons was formerly marketing director at international mobile entertainment company Movies on the Move. He has also held senior brand and marketing roles at Kellogg, Unilever and Procter & Gamble.

In his new role, Simmons will be responsible for developing marketing strategies and programmes, for driving profitable growth and furthering the global expansion of the Inter-Continental chain.

The company has also promoted Jacqueline Moyse to the newly created role of director of global brand management for the hotel brand.

Moyse, who was previously director of human resources development at Six Continents, will focus on defining Inter-Continental’s brand values and ensuring consistent quality across the existing 130 Inter-Continental properties.

Commenting on the two appointments, Six Continents senior vice-president of global strategy Alan Beaney says: “They are both bringing valuable skills and experience to their new roles to help us enhance our global brand.”

Six Continents owns or operates more than 3,200 hotels in 100 countries. As well as Inter-Continental its other hotel brands include Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza and Express by Holiday Inn.

Bass plc changed the company’s name to Six Continents earlier this month, after selling the Bass name and red triangle logo to Interbrew last year, along with its brewing operation.
