Marketing Week teams up with ETC for tourism awards

For the third year running, Marketing Week has teamed up with the English Tourism Council (ETC) to back an award showcasing marketing achievement in the English tourism industry.

The Marketing in Tourism Award forms part of the ETC’s long established and respected annual Excellence in England awards, which recognises excellence in quality and outstanding achievement in English tourism.

Last year, Derby Tourism won the award for its innovative promotion of the Rams’ Football Weekend. The aim was to promote longer stays and greater spend among visiting football fans attending matches at Derby County FC, by offering hotel packages and add-ons to visitor attractions in the city. The imaginative project illustrated how good results cans be achieved with a small budget. A small investment generated significant additional income and extensive media coverage that raised Derby’s profile in both domestic and European markets.

ETC head of communications Naomi Cohen says: “The winner of the award will demonstrate the greatest innovation, effectiveness and achievement in launching a product or destination or repositioning an existing one.”

The closing date for nominations is October 5. A shortlist of finalists will be named in February 2002 and the winner will be announced at the Safeway Excellence in England 2002 awards’ ceremony on April 23 next year, at the Royal Opera House.
