The Grauniad floods with wet liberals
The Diary hears that a nasty stink descended on The Guardian and Observer’s Farringdon Road HQ last week.
Bemused employees and visitors were left clutching their noses and affixing strained smiles for about 30 minutes as support staff tried to figure out where the pong was coming from.
One Guardian hack, just back from a sortie at the local pub, had a theory it was another of editor Alan Rusbridger’s schoolboy pranks.
“Has he been letting off stink bombs again?” he joked. The Diary is glad to hear that the problem has been rectified. A spokesman says: “It seems that a sudden downpour caused the drains opposite our offices to overflow.” Rumours that several members of the gutter press surfaced at the same time remain unfounded.
