Workthing hires head of marketing from EMAP

Workthing.com, the Guardian Media Group online recruitment network, has appointed Catherine Edmondson as head of marketing, replacing Niall Murdoch, who left in July to join Channel 4.

She will oversee all the marketing and advertising budgets for the company and will report to Workthing’s marketing and product development director, Claire Potter.

Edmondson joins from EMAP Digital, where she oversaw the transfer of men’s lifestyle magazine FHM online. Before EMAP she was business development manager at the FT Group and then head of marketing for FTyourmoney.com.

Murdoch is understood to be heading the marketing of a new project for Channel 4. He oversaw the &£13m launch of Workthing last autumn and appointed WCRS to handle the account after a three-way pitch against HHCL & Partners and BMP DDB. Workthing.com recently moved its advertising account from WCRS to media specialist Michaelides & Bednash.

Potter says the decision to move the business to M&B, which will use different creative agencies on an ad hoc basis, is “because we really wanted fantastic communications and Michaelides really understood our brand”. She adds that the first work from M&B will be in the new year.

The recruitment service has also appointed former beenz.com product manager Gonca Kemel as brand manager. She replaces Dan Jamieson, who left in August. She will look at implementing an online customer relationship management (e-CRM) programme.
