HBOS shakes up retail marketing operations after business review

Halifax and Bank of Scotland (HBOS) has restructured its retail marketing operations following the merger, and has appointed Steve Griffiths – formerly head retail marketer at Bank of Scotland (BoS) – to the job of head of marketing external sales.

Griffiths will report to HBOS retail marketing chief Philip Hanson, who moved to the job last month, following a head on battle with Griffiths (MW August 9). Hanson was formerly general marketing manager with Halifax.

Griffiths is now responsible for branch marketing across the Halifax and Bank of Scotland networks. The brand names will remain on the high street.

Former Halifax head of marketing communications James Boulton has moved to the position of HBOS head of brand marketing and retail sales.

Former Halifax head of database marketing Andy McLaughlin is now head of direct marketing for HBOS. And former BoS fulfilment director Diane Winnard has become HBOS head of customer insights and customer relations. All these positions report to Hanson.

The company is still searching for a head of customer relationship management, although it has not been decided whether this will be an internal or external appointment.

Hay Management Consultancy carried out the restructure as part of a review of the whole business.

Halifax’s advertising is handled by Delaney Lund Knox Warren, with media buying through Zenith Media. BoS advertising is handled by Feather Brooksbank and TDA. Both companies say there are no plans at present to review the business.
