Leave religion to the religious

Well, I suppose you’ve got to admire their perseverance. Once again, it seems, the churches are moving mysteriously among us, spreading the gospel and plastering up their posters (MW September 13). Surely they’ve noticed that no one even cares enough to deface the things any more? It’s very sad I’m sure, but the UK has, to a large extent, grown up and decided it doesn’t want to go to a draughty old building once a week and listen to a guy in a dress lecture it on morality. Despite their best intentions, one can’t help feeling that the money would be better spent on putting their Christian values into action and housing the homeless, or digging wells in the Third World.
