Npower promotes Yorkshire electricity boss to new role

Yorkshire Electricity retail director Kevin Miles has been promoted to the new role of integration director for npower Northern.

The move follows the distribution-for-supply electricity swap by Innogy, the parent company of npower, which has sold its 94.75 per cent stake in the Yorkshire electricity distribution business to Northern Electric & Gas for &£1bn.

Miles will now be responsible for the marketing teams of Northern Electric. David Andrew, npower marketing director, has since taken responsibility for the Yorkshire Electricity brand.

As part of the deal, Innogy has acquired Northern Electric’s supply business and increased npower’s customer base by 1.57 million customers.

It is also understood that Innogy is planning to scrap the Yorkshire Electricity brand and integrate the business within the npower brand. Yorkshire Electricity chief executive Graham Hall retired in January and has not been replaced. Marketing and sales manager Sue Amies-King left the company at the time of the acquisition and the managing director of the company’s supply business, Bill Wilkinson, also quit following the acquisition (MW August 9).

It is understood that the integration of Yorkshire Electricity brand within the npower brand will result in 300 job losses at Yorkshire Electricity.

Last month, npower introduced a transitional logo, which combines the npower and the Yorkshire Electricity brands.
