NTL loses head of development
NTL’s managing director of marketing and development, Jerry Roest, has quit the digital cable, Internet and telephony company.
NTL is seeking a replacement for Roest, who is credited with developing the unmetered broadband service, NTL World.
In the meantime, NTL managing director Stephen Carter will oversee the marketing, which is headed by group marketing director Mike Hounsell. Strategic director of content Ian West will be responsible for product development.
Roest is assessing a number of opportunities, but it is expected that he will opt for a lifestyle change. He has spent the past five years working for NTL in a range of roles covering product development and the Internet. Before joining NTL, Roest worked as a senior executive at CompuServe.
Pushing the take-up of broadband and making it more affordable for consumers has become a major part of NTL’s strategy. To this effect, it launched a fast Internet access service on Tuesday at the same price as many consumers are paying for unmetered Internet access using a dial-up modem.
It is offering its cable customers an always-on connection to the Internet at more than twice the speed of current modems, for &£14.99 a month.
NTL earlier this month launched a &£10m branding push to make consumers aware of the benefits of cable as a platform that delivers three services down one line – TV, telephone and the Internet.
