Administrator lays off senior Atlantic Telecom executives

Atlantic Telecommunications marketing director Amanda Doran is thought to have lost her job. The company is cutting 245 staff after it was placed into administration at the beginning of the month.

Atlantic’s sponsorship of next year’s Commonwealth Games, to be held in Manchester, has also been thrown into jeopardy. It is not clear whether the company will be able to honour its obligations and the Games’ organisers may have to find another telecoms provider to sponsor the event.

Doran is understood to have left the company – along with managing director Ian Pawlett – last week, as part of a cost-cutting programme introduced by administrator PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC). Atlantic business development director Jackie Doyle is also understood to have left the company.

PwC has also been appointed as “interim manager” to Atlantic Telecom Group, the holding company of Atlantic Telecommunications, which is the UK arm.

The marketing team has been in a state of flux since the company’s last restructure in January this year, which resulted in the loss of more than 350 jobs (MW January 25).

The restructure was designed to reflect a shift in focus away from the residential telecoms business and towards providing high-speed Internet services for small businesses.

The (then 14-strong) marketing team based at the company’s Aberdeen office was to be moved to Manchester to prepare for the Commonwealth Games.
