Experience Corps hunts first marketing director

The Experience Corps, a Government scheme set up to encourage people aged over 50 to become voluntary workers, is looking to appoint its first permanent marketing director.

Until now the position has been held on an interim basis by Richard Lancaster, who oversaw the appointments earlier this year of Saatchi & Saatchi (MW August 30) and Manning Gottlieb Media (MW October 11) to the Experience Corp’s &£1.5m advertising account.

It is not known whether Lancaster, a marketing consultant who worked for Age Concern for four years, is being considered for the permanent position.

The Experience Corps is an England-wide scheme established in January this year to develop ways in which the 50-plus can pass on their skills and experience to help others.

The organisation unveils a new logo this week and launches its first advertising campaign, created by Saatchi, in the next couple of weeks. The first stage of the campaign involves a regional press and radio advertising push in the North of England. It will carry the strapline “You’ve trained for it all your life” and is aimed at 50to 65-year-olds with no previous volunteering experience.

The second phase of the campaign, planned for autumn next year, involves regional TV and a national advertising push.

Three months ago the Experience Corps appointed Maggie Semple OBE, the former director of education for the Millennium Experience, as its chief executive.

The body is establishing a network of nine regional offices throughout England, which will employ local co-ordinators to match volunteers to suitable posts.
