Berlin takes over at Red Cell after deal

WPP’s global agency network Red Cell has created two co-chief executive positions following the acquisition of US agency Berlin Cameron & Partners.

Berlin Cameron & Partners chairman Andy Berlin is to become co-chief executive and chief creative officer. Lee Daley, former chief strategy officer for McCann-Erickson Europe, Middle East and Africa is to become co-chief executive and chief strategic officer.

The appointments follow a job offer from D’Arcy to Red Cell chief executive Luca Lindner. Many in the industry believe it has been accepted. Lindner is understood to be staying at Red Cell to work with the new co-chief executives into next year, and changing circumstances may affect his ultimate decision.

Berlin brings a highly creative reputation to Red Cell. He co-founded Goodby, Berlin & Silverstein in San Francisco and in 1995 co-founded the agency which evolved into Berlin Cameron & Partners.

Red Cell’s London office witnessed a swathe of redundancies and senior management restructuring last week, which may indicate a clearout in order to allow Berlin and Daley to be based in London. No one from Red Cell was available for comment.

Red Cell, which numbers Alfa Romeo as a client, was launched in January this year as a medium-sized global network for “challenger brands”, bringing together four agencies with 20 offices around the world.
