World Sports Solutions picks up Leeds Utd global licensing task

World Sports Solutions (WSS) has been appointed to manage the global merchandising rights for Leeds United products.

Under the five-year deal, WSS will be in charge of taking the Leeds United brand to new territories through a global merchandising and brand licensing programme.

In addition to working with European football, WSS also has clients in the golf, rugby and horseracing sectors as well as the William’s F1 team.

Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale says: “Never in the business of football has it been so important to be at the forefront of exporting your product and brand to new markets. WSS provides Leeds United with an experienced global distribution network.”

Earlier this year Leeds appointed marketer Stuart Ogg as its first international brand manager with a brief to establish a network of business partnerships in the Far East, Australia, Scandinavia and Ireland, focusing on retail, manufacturing, distribution and licensing (MW March 22).

However, Ogg parted company with the premiership club last month along with two other marketers, and the club is currently seeking a head of marketing (MW November 22).

It is unclear whether WSS’ appointment replaces Ogg’s responsibilities. Leeds United was unavailable for comment as Marketing Week went to press.
