The Accident Group is taking its &£12m media buying business away from The Collins Partnership, and has shortlisted MediaVest Manchester and Brilliant Media for the work. A decision is expected by the end of the month.

CIA Manchester and the incumbent also pitched but were knocked out in the first round.

It follows a review of the creative business last summer, which ended when Cheetham Bell JWT snatched the work from McCann-Erickson Manchester (MW August 17).

Manchester-based The Accident Group handles personal injury compensation claims but is trying to distance itself from the industry’s “ambulance chaser” image.

Rival company Claims Direct was attacked by the press last year for allegedly adding hidden costs to its service. Accident Group pushes the fact that it charges a flat fee.

Last November the company became the sponsor of injury time at Leeds United Football Club’s home games. It also sponsored programmes on digital channels Granada Breeze and Granada Plus until December last year, when the contract expired.

The company uses a national panel of 350 solicitors’ firms to process 9,000 claims per month. It offers a 24-hour freephone call centre and claims can also be made over the Internet.
