One 2 One loses senior marketers

Deutsche Telekom-owned One 2 One is to lose its former head of business marketing, Simon Eggleton, as part of a major restructure which will result in up to 40 redundancies in the mobile operator’s marketing department.

One 2 One has also lost its sales and distribution director John Barton, who has been poached by Hutchison 3G to be its sales director.

One 2 One is in the process of rebranding as T-Mobile, the name of Deutsche Telekom’s mobile network in Germany. An industry insider claims that the strapline “Life is made of One 2 Ones” will go as part of the rebranding operation.

Eggleton, who is to take voluntary redundancy, was moved to the newly created post of head of T-Mobile Projects in June last year (MW June 28, 2001) and given responsibility for the UK integration of products developed elsewhere in the Deutsche Telekom empire.

One 2 One’s marketing structure has yet to be finalised, but it is likely that Tim Yates will continue in his role as marketing director reporting to chief sales and marketing officer Clent Richardson.

The restructuring follows the announcement that One 2 One is to shed 900 jobs, representing 13 per cent of its workforce, across its business.
