Teletext has appointed Marc Bell, former marketing director for easyInternetCafé, as its marketing chief after a year-long search.

Bell replaces Simon Curry as marketing director. Curry left last January to go to BTopenworld as commercial director for broadband after only a year at Teletext.

For the past year marketing at Teletext has been overseen by PR manager Arabella Marsland.

Bell left easyInternetCafé two months ago and has not been replaced. Operations director Mike Keefe is acting marketing director.

During his tenure at Teletext, Curry oversaw a review of the £8m advertising account after St Luke’s resigned the work over a client conflict.

He appointed Delaney Lund Knox Warren to the account in July 2000.

Curry also worked on a new brand identity for Telextext, which was unveiled in November 2000.

Teletext has come under increasing competition from the Internet and other information service providers on digital TV platforms.

Last March the company launched a £4m campaign to promote its holiday service. It ran in national press, TV listings and weekly lifestyle magazines and on poster sites across the UK, and featured the line ‘In One Place’.
