Lloyds TSB hires strategy chief as Ford Ennals quits

Lloyds TSB has appointed its managing director of European Internet banking, Jayne Almond, to the post of director of strategy and marketing, following a restructure that triggered the resignation of director of group customer management Ford Ennals.

The bank’s head of retail banking, Eric Daniels, who took up his post last November, decided to divide up customer management responsibility, which undermined Ennals’ role. Ennals will leave at the end of February.

Ennals, who applied for the head of retail banking job last autumn, says: “The bank is changing, from a centralised customer operation into a product-focused group. I was offered the marketing role, but at this point [in my career] I want to take a step up.”

Ennals says he is in negotiations about jobs with financial services companies and an undisclosed football club, which is searching for a chief executive.

Almond will continue to carry out her old responsibilities, which included the development of Spanish online brand Evolvebank. Plans to launch the brand in the UK were shelved in 2000.

In addition to Almond’s move, managing director for personal banking and cards Peter Ayliffe will take responsibility for customer relationship management and segmentation.

Director of retail distribution John Spence will take responsibility for retail banking e-commerce; and Sally-Ann Hibberd, managing director of internal IT operation Delivering One Bank, becomes director of service quality.

The restructure will not affect incumbents Rainey Kelly, Saatchi & Saatchi or Zenith.
