Somerfield ousts brand chief in rejig

Somerfield Stores has ousted group brand director Nick Adderley and is reviewing the role of group marketing director Stephen Barnett, as part of a restructure. Separate business units will now handle marketing for Somerfield and Kwik Save.

Business director David Coxon becomes commercial director and will handle marketing at the Kwik Save business unit, set up last year under managing director Graham Maguire. Kwik Save commercial director Nigel Broadhurst will transfer to the Somerfield business unit, which was set up this week. He will report to former retail operations director Bill Williams, who has been promoted to managing director. As part of the changes, Somerfield associate group director of marketing Martin Sutherland becomes brand director.

According to a spokesman for Somerfield Stores, Barnett will oversee the transition process, after which his job will be reviewed.

He denies that agency arrangements are also under review. Kwik Save and Somerfield both use McCann-Erickson and Universal McCann.

Adderley left on Monday and is understood to have no job to go to.
