Scottish Power seeks director

Scottish Power is looking for a marketing and sales director for its gas and electricity supply business, following a reshuffle in its marketing department.

The appointee to the newly created position of marketing director for customer sales and services will report to the managing director, William McDiarmid. Until the position is filled, marketing has been divided between three marketers: head of consumer marketing, Sally Stanley; head of product development, Stewart Laing; and head of advertising and promotions, Ronnie Wayte.

Wayte joined the company from ad agency M&C Saatchi as head of retail marketing, a position created two years ago. Following the utility company’s announcement to get out of electrical retailing last summer, Wayte was given the responsibility for business promotions and advertising.

Wayte’s role change resulted in the company’s head of marketing services and advertising, Kevin Toner, moving to handle “business transformation projects”. Toner, who has now left the company, was responsible for appointing Glasgow-based agency The Bridge to handle Scottish Power’s &£4m advertising account (MW June 7, 2001).

Scottish Power has five different divisions: customer sales and services business for the retail supply of gas and electricity; generation business; power system, its overhead and underground cable business; contract services, a wiring division and information systems, the company’s IT division.
