PHD picks up £10m Eagle Star business

Eagle Star has appointed PHD to its £10m media buying and planning account. PHD replaces Walker Brann.

The appointment coincides with the appointment of TBWA GGT Direct as lead agency and EHS Brann as second agency on Eagle Star’s direct marketing business. The review was overseen by the AAR.

PHD beat two undisclosed agencies and Walker Brann for the work, which will include press advertising and possibly direct response TV alongside direct marketing.

PHD already handles media buying for Prudential. However, Prudential claims that there will be no conflict as Prudential only sells life assurance and pensions. Eagle Star’s range of insurance products include car, home and travel insurance.

TBWA GGT Direct and EHS Brann beat IMP and Joshua for the direct marketing business.

Brann, which merged with ehsrealtime last year, had held the business since 1994. It was handed Eagle Star’s business account in May last year after a three-way pitch.

Details of how work will be apportioned between the agencies will be decided in the next few weeks. The review was overseen by Eagle Star head of marketing Hein Kuiper and head of marketing development Phil Ost.

Eagle Star is a division of the Zurich Financial Services Group, but the appointments do not affect any other companies in the group.
