Big Food seeks home shopping marketer

The Big Food Group, formerly known as Iceland Group, is looking for a head of marketing for its home shopping service to replace Gerry Bagnall, who is leaving this month to set up his own business.

Bagnall reports to Iceland home shopping director Jon Grey. The national home shopping service is available on the Internet; through interactive TV on NTL and Telewest Broadband; and over the telephone.

Iceland is also conducting a trial of a service called IseeTV, which allows shoppers to speak to an operator over the telephone while watching pictures of product ranges on their TV.

The home-shopping service offers about 3,000 items, sourced from Iceland stores. The company is conducting trials in Chester and Birmingham, extending the offer to 9,000 products sourced from depots operated by the group’s cash-and-carry business, Booker.

The bulk of Iceland’s stores have been rebranded as in support of the home shopping operation. The group is to unveil a strategy to reduce its &£440m of debt this week, and to give details of up to five store formats that it is to adopt.

Iceland has recently suffered a number of blows, including a decision by British Home Stores to close five trial Iceland concessions in its stores, leaving only four operating.
