Driven to robbin’ from the Trotters
Sponsorship, so they say, is going through a tough time. Football clubs are finding it hard to find companies daft enough to shell out good money to put their names on shirts.
In return, it seems football clubs are finding it difficult to justify forking out on sponsorships of their own. Leeds United Football Club, for instance, has resorted to putting its name on a Reliant Regal.
The club has teamed up with model maker Lledo to produce 1,000 commemorative Reliant Regals, to celebrate the fact that the club makes the worst player in training drive home in the real thing.
Whether they also have to knock out a bit of dodgy gear, Del Boy-style, from the back of the van is unclear.
Leeds is wise to release the model. After all, it may be the only happy memory of this season its fans will get. Then again “This time next year Rodney, they could be Premiership leaders.”
