Green Flag drops F3 and signs £1m British Touring Car sponsorship deal

Green Flag is to become the title sponsor of the British Touring Car Championship as part of a package understood to be worth nearly £1m.

The sponsorship package includes title sponsorship, broadcast sponsorship of the championship’s coverage on ITV, perimeter advertising and hospitality events. The 20-round series, which starts on March 30, will visit all of the UK’s larger circuits as well as the Irish venue Mondello Park. The previous title sponsor was breakdown service the Automobile Association’s website arm, AA.com.

As a result of sponsoring the championship, Green Flag has pulled out of being the title sponsor for the British Formula 3 Championship, which it has held for the past two seasons. The British Formula 3 Championship is now seeking a replacement sponsor through sports agency Octagon Motorsports. In the past Green Flag has also sponsored the England Football Team.

Green Flag provides roadside rescue and recovery services to more than 4 million drivers in the UK. In January it struck a a deal with Shell to run a roadside assistance service which it claims is cheaper than rivals AA and RAC. The venture is being promoted through a £2m through-the-line campaign created by Lowe Live (MW February14).
