Revlon UK managing director joins exodus

Revlon UK managing director Kerry McCarter has left the company without a job to go to. He has yet to be replaced.

McCarter’s exit from the cosmetics and haircare company follows a series of sudden departures at the company’s New York headquarters, including that of chief executive Jeffrey Nugent and global marketing chief Cheryl Vitali, earlier this year. Both Nugent and Vitali resigned as the company struggled to turn around its business.

For the final quarter of 2001, Revlon posted a net loss of $28.3m (&£19.4m), compared with a net loss of $51.3m (&£35.2m) a year earlier.

According to a spokesman for the company in the UK: “McCarter has left the company for personal reasons. He has left to go to the US and spend some time with his family.”

Nugent was replaced by a former Coca-Cola chief executive, Jack Stahl. Former Condé Nast Publications executive Rochelle Udell has been appointed as executive vice-president of development and design, and will also be responsible for marketing.

The cosmetics company recently signed a deal with All My Children, a soap opera on the ABC network in the US, to become part of the storyline. It is believed to have spent up to &£5m to be cast in the role of “corporate baddie”. Revlon is featured as a rival company to the cosmetics company owned by the show’s star.
