The marketer is a secretive beast

Fans of fly-on-the-wall documentaries have probably been watching The Secret Life of the Office, the programme about telephone car rental agency Holiday Autos, which has been described as a real-life version of acclaimed BBC comedy The Office.

As marketers yourselves, you may be asking: “Where’s the exposure for the marketing department, headed by Joanna Pyshorn?” Ever at your service, the Diary has found out: apparently, the show was filmed 18 months ago, just after Pyshorn joined the company. She was lined up as a central character with the documentary due to focus on how well she picked up the reins of her new job and how she got on with new colleagues.

But, new managing director Doug Sawers, who had been due to start work earlier, ended up arriving on the same day and the TV people swung their attention to him. As ever in comedy, it’s all in the timing
