Ex-Drambuie marketer to join Blackbird

Paul Davey, the ex-marketing director of Drambuie and Smirnoff, has resurfaced at a newly formed marketing and communications consultancy, Blackbird. Davey quit Drambuie in March (MW March 14).

He becomes a managing partner of Blackbird, launched this January by John Crowley, formerly a senior vice-president with Universal McCann responsible for integrating the agency’s through-the-line planning. He is the second high-profile appointment in the past month at Blackbird – Jerry Fielder, former group media director and chairman of Leagas Delaney, joined in January, also as a managing partner.

Crowley says Blackbird’s purpose is to offer brand communication solutions and strategic campaign management to marketing directors who may not have the necessary resources in house.

Davey, 42, joined Drambuie Liqueur in September 1999 from Diageo, where he had been general manager for IDV Russia. Drambuie took the unusual step of announcing his appointment at Drambuie with a quarter-page ad on the City pages of the Daily Telegraph.
