The Football Association (FA) is to use revolving perimeter advertising boards for the first time in a move that could see the medium becoming a permanent fixture at England internationals and competitions such as the FA Cup.
McDonald’s, the FA’s community sponsor, will take most of the advertising with the rest shared between other FA sponsors, such as Nationwide, Carlsberg, Umbro, and the FA itself.
As part of the deal, oneillmovingmedia (omm) will provide 42 revolving units for use at the season’s curtain-raiser the Community Shield (formerly the Charity Shield). The game, which will be held on Sunday (August 11) at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, will pit Premier League and FA cup winners Arsenal against the league’s runners-up Liverpool.
FA brand manager Mark Osikoya says: “We have chosen to use revolving perimeter advertising systems for the FA Community Shield to give our partners greater flexibility in the messages they can communicate during the game.”
Omm was founded in 1998 and is part of the oneillmodernmedia group. It supplies revolving boards to a number of football clubs including Manchester United and Leeds United. Earlier this year the company struck a deal to supply revolving boards to the Oval cricket ground (MW May 23).
