Virgin Home Energy in review of dormant £10m advertising brief

Virgin Home Energy services is reviewing its advertising account, held by Leo Burnett.

The agency was appointed to the business two years ago following a two-way pitch against Fallon (MW June 15, 2000). At the time, the account was worth £10m, but the business has been dormant for some time.

A spokesman for the utility company says: “Leo Burnett is our preferred agency, but we haven’t used it for some time, which is why the brief is up for review.”

Advertising for the company’s sister brands within the London Electricity (LE) Group – LE and SWEB – is already up for review (MW March 28). All three reviews will be overseen by group sales and marketing director Gary Tubb. At present, First City Advertising handles creative and media work for the LE brand and Interfocus handles SWEB.

LE Group is in consultation with the Virgin Group about the continued use of the latter’s brand name for selling gas and electricity, following controversy over the former’s selling practices (MW August 1). The Virgin Energy brand, 75 per cent-owned by LE Group, is used for LE Group’s national utility services.
