Burger King marketer to remain with Diageo

UK and Ireland chief chooses to take global position with parent company following BK demerger

Burger King (BK) UK and Ireland marketing director Philip Almond is to remain at the fast-food giant’s former owner, Diageo. He will take up the role of global innovations director. Former Marks & Spencer and Bhs marketer Anna Joseph will replace him.

In July, Texas Pacific Group, Bain Capital and Goldman Sachs Capital Partners backed a buyout from Diageo of Burger King, with the support of BK chairman and chief executive John Dasburg.

Almond joined BK just over two years ago, replacing Lorraine Thomson, who quit the company to join Internet portal Excite Europe as marketing director (MW August 31, 2000).

Prior to joining BK, Almond spent five years in senior marketing roles at UDV UK and was brand director for Smirnoff and the Ready to Drink Group, where he oversaw the launch of Smirnoff Ice.

Joseph, who starts work at BK on September 16, was head of marketing and brand management at Marks & Spencer until her resignation in July. Prior to that, she was a marketing manager for childrens-wear and lingerie at Bhs.

Burger King has just appointed Delaney Lund Knox Warren to handle its UK advertising business, after it split from Lowe because of creative differences (MW July 25).
