It’s the taking part that counts

Ever thought of running a marathon? Ever run a marathon? How did you do, what was your time? Were you a little off the pace? Well, the Diary is willing to bet you didn’t finish five days behind the winner – unlike CLIC head of communications Lloyd Scott.

Scott ran this year’s Flora London Marathon wearing a deep-sea diving suit, and raised £150,000 for CLIC – a charity that works to eliminate childhood cancer and leukaemia. In November, rather than coming up with an easier gimmick, he intends to “run” the New York Marathon in the same outfit. He is now searching for corporate sponsors for his “slowest ever marathon”.

He says: “We are very keen to identify sponsors who want to raise the profile of their organisation in terms of corporate social responsibility. We’ve had media interest already on both sides of the Atlantic and CLIC’s celebrity supporters are working to give the attempt the best possible profile. Sponsors will benefit from superb branding opportunities.”

The Diary wishes Scott luck in his attempt, and hopes he doesn’t get eaten by octopuses. For more information, contact him on 01708 551777.
