Barclays marketer moves to Powergen

Powergen has appointed former Barclaycard marketing director Paul Parmenter to the newly created position of sales and marketing director. The creation of the post follows a merger of the utility company’s sales and marketing departments, which will also result in redundancies.

The company, owned by German energy group Eon, has yet to decide the future roles of marketing director John Evans and sales director Jason Scagell. Evans recently appointed Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R to handle the company’s &£12m advertising business, after a three-way pitch (MW July 11).

A spokeswoman says: “Evans has spent more than five years as marketing director at Powergen, and has now decided that he is ready for a new role within the group. Both Evans and Scagell are currently in discussions with Eon regarding senior management roles.”

Parmenter, who will report to managing director Nick Horler, was responsible for Barclaycard’s tie-up with the Premiership. He recently moved to take up a new marketing role – as chief operating officer of group marketing – within the Barclays group (MW August 22).

Eon is rumoured to be bidding for rival energy company TXU Energi, part of TXU Europe, which recently lost its head of retail business Roger Partington (MW last week).
