Georgia-Pacific axes senior marketing role

Tissue manufacturer Georgia-Pacific has axed the role of its UK marketing chief Steve Duncan, as part of what is understood to be a cost-saving exercise. He leaves the company at the end of the year.

The manufacturer of the Nouvelle and Kittensoft tissue ranges is struggling in a tough market, hit by increased paper pulp prices and price reductions by major players such as Kimberly-Clark.

Duncan reports to executive director of consumer business Gareth Edwards, who will now be given marketing responsibilities. Duncan’s role was expanded last year to include private labels, brand management and trade marketing as part of a restructure (MW January 4, 2001). He was also given responsibility for three product groups – toilet tissues, household tissues (including kitchen towels) and health and beauty tissues.
