Procter & Gamble (P&G) is ditching its 28-year-old Vidal Sassoon haircare brand in the UK. The move to cull the brand has already begun.
Two years ago, P&G delisted its Solo range of hair products, part of the Vidal Sassoon Wash & Go range (MW August 24, 2000).
A spokeswoman for the company says: “Vidal Sassoon is one of the most respected names in haircare and the product line has been thriving in many parts of the world. However, despite a loyal following, it has not met P&G’s objectives in the UK. With the recent acquisition of Clairol, P&G will be focusing its efforts on developing its haircare business with its key global brands, which include Pantene and Herbal Essences.”
P&G acquired Clairol from Bristol Myers Squibb in May last year.
P&G will continue to manufacture products for Vidal Sassoon salons – a privately owned enterprise.
