Euro RSCG in £2m Expedia review

Online travel company Expedia is reviewing its £2m advertising account, held by Euro RSCG. The review follows the appointment of Beverly Shaw as marketing director last month (MW October 31).

Shaw officially joined Expedia this week. She was previously marketing manager of Coca-Cola’s fruit, carbonates and juices division. Before that, Shaw spent two years at British Airways as a project manager.

Expedia’s former marketing director, Nickie Smith, left the company in September to pursue other interests. She has since been recruited by MSN to head its subscriptions marketing for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Expedia launched in the UK in October 1998. Last month, the company announced it would be expanding into the Asia-Pacific market early next year. Former UK managing director James Vaile will head the operation. UK operations director Dermot Halpin took over from Vaile in May.

Expedia has not reviewed any of its agencies since June 2001, when it gave Zinc its online ad business. Zinc is now called Arnold Interactive, after becoming part of the Arnold Group. Media Planning Group handles Expedia’s media account.
