News Group loses another top marketer

News Group Newspapers (NGN), owned by Rupert Murdoch, is facing a talent drain, with the resignation of promotions director Andy Agar, who follows hot on the heels of NGN marketing director Nick Canning.

The two were in charge of the marketing and promotions teams for The Sun and the News of the World. Canning is leaving to join Iceland as marketing director (MW October 31) and Agar is understood to have resigned without a job to go to. Agar had been tipped to replace Canning, but sources claim he is keen to gain experience outside the newspaper industry.

Agar was promoted to promotions director from promotions manager in August 1999. He recently assumed responsibility for promotions at Times Newspapers.

As well as losing Canning and Agar, The Sun lost marketing manager Roland Agambar in March. He quit to join rival Express Newspapers as group marketing director (MW March 21).
