Barclays reshuffles core UK marketing operations

Barclays retail marketing director Richard Harvey is taking a wider group role co-ordinating marketing activities across Barclays’ UK businesses, to fill the gap left by the departure of Paul Parmenter to Powergen (MW October 17).

As marketing director for the core UK operations, Harvey will link marketing across personal financial services, business banking and Barclaycard UK.

He is replaced as retail marketing director by marketing operations director Andrew Gillespie, who will also take over group marketing director Simon Gulliford’s place on the personal financial services executive. Liz Sinclair, campaigns manager for business banking and Barclays’ private clients, will fill the marketing operations role until a permanent replacement is found.

Meanwhile, Sara Deeks has been appointed acting customer insight director, following the departure of Oliver White last month. Previously change director, Deeks was part of the team responsible for centralising Barclays’ marketing operations.

Chief operating officer for communications David Lavarack has had his remit widened to include the chief operating officer role for marketing. He will report both to Gulliford and to communications director Leigh Bruce.

Last week, Barclays warned that pre-tax profits for 2002 would be flat or below last year’s £3.4bn, and that revenue in its personal financial services division would be flat.
